    Description

You are viewing a Rare and Unusual Vintage 1912 Underwoods High Chair Porcelain Baby Plate. This plate is designed with the nursery rhyme of Little Miss Muffet. Designed to fit into a high chair top. The graphics on this vintage baby plate are still vibrant and colorful. This plate is plain white ware with transfer designs, of Little Miss Muffet. I bought this unique and lovely piece at an estate sale in Corvallis Oregon. The woman was elderly and not feeling her best, so she sold her house to live with her kids. Thus she has an estate sale. There were many old pieces in her home including this Underwood High Chair Baby Plate. I think it looks quite good for being over 100 years old and she cared and loved it deeply. I hope it catches your fancy as it did mine. Little Miss Muffet is such an intriguing and fun little nursery rhyme that has lasted over the ages. There is some light fading and wear on the graphics, but you can still read the rhyme. The plate is sturdy and heavy, it measures 10 1/2” wide and 6 1/2” tall. This child’s plate is glazed with a crackle finish and There is surface wear to the ceramic plate, for example the gold rim around the middle circle has faded here and there, but it is still very prominent. There is a chip on the back of the plate on the left and a small brown hole on the bottom of the plate as well. There is a long hair line crack the runs from the top to the bottom of the plate and another little larger crack on the left side of the plate. On the back the hairline fracture continues. These cracks don’t make this plate weak, they give this vintage rare and unique child’s plate age and character. The child’s plate overall is very old and fine, and appears to be totally stable. On the back of the plate you can read the stamp, “UNDERWOODS HIGH CHAIR, BABY PLATE, PATENTED JUNE 11, 1912.” It would be a great collectors piece to display in your home or you can use it displayed on a child’s high chair. It is still use able and functional baby’s food plate. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and thank you for viewing this item.
