Pre-Civil War Linstock for Slow Match, In Firing Artillery

$ 198

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

This turned wood linstock was designed to hold slow match used in firing artillery.  This example is more elaborate that those usually associated with the Civil War period, as they usually lack the turnings exhibited here. This example probably dates to the Mexican War, or earlier. All parts except for the spike, which was meant to hold the linstock in the ground, are made of copper, so as not to cause sparks.  Overall length, including the spike, is 26 inches,  The original paint is artillery green,  These items are increasingly hard to find, and I have not seen one with such elaborate turnings in many years.
