Description

This is a pretty common variant of eaglehead, most likely from relatively late in the design’s popularity. A lot of people mistakenly believe this type of pommel is an FW Widmann design, and it does share superficial similarities to some of his work, but it’s much more likely to be a European import perhaps influenced by some later Widmann eagles. I think this is probably French or German based on the overall style of pommel as well as the ivy vine embossed tape that separates the bone grip panels. The blade is unadorned but highly polished and with minimal pitting, appearing nearly brand new. A nice piece for those just getting into eagleheads or a collector looking for a piece they don’t have yet.
