Dating from the early French First "Restauration Era", this is an example of a Royal Guard Officer's Epee Sword Model 1816. This particular Epée was intentionally altered post Restauration Era evidenced by the removal of the "three Fleur-de-Lis" from the guard face just beneath the crown. The beautifully detailed guard face wears a leafy motif that frames the now empty crowned shield. The guard remains nice otherwise and has now developed a lovely aged patina and the wire wrapped hilt is loose, nevertheless is present. The straight blade measures 32 11/16 inches in length and although shows to have been cleaned throughout the years, the engravings do remain present on either side. Overall the Epée measures 38 3/8 inches in length. The scabbard has been lost along the way. TO SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS PLEASE SCROLL DOWN.
