This is an early French import eaglehead from Simon Helvig et Fils, a firm in business between 1820-40. The Solingen-forged blade features some of the most remarkably well-preserved, iridescent bluing I’ve seen in person, reminiscent of Lisa Frank school supplies from the 90’s, and the nicely-decorated brass scabbard is tight and complete with an eagle clutching a federal shield in its talons. The hilt does wiggle a little bit, but that’s more common than not in 180-200 year old swords with peened tangs/pommels.
