Civil War Model 1860 Cavalry Sword Saber Mansfield & Lamb Made in 1864

Description

Up for auction is an excellent example of a Mansfield & Lamb Model 1860 Civil War Cavalry Sword.  The saber was manufactured in 1864 for the U.S. Ordnance Department by the firm of Henry Mansfield and Estus Lamb of Forestdale, Rhode Island. Ricasso marked "U.S. C.E.W. 2 1864" and "Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale R.I.". The pommel is marked "C.E.W.". Having a wire-wrapped leather grip with a brass guard and leather sword knot. Includes metal scabbard with leather straps and a brass loop.  Blade shows overall pitting a discoloration. The leather grip is cracking. The brass guard shows surface wear with some points of rusting. Scabbard shows overall rusting with two dents near the tip and one dent in the center.
This is a great sample of one of the 37,500 swords Mansfield and Lamb made during the civil war for U.S. cavalry troops.  The blade is 35" long and overall length is about 43".
This would be a really nice addition to anyone's collection.
