    Description

At the Edge of the World by Robert Neppach (Universum Film, 1927). Fine/Very Fine on Board. Original German Charcoal Production Concept Sketch on Paper (13" X 10").
Atmospheric charcoal concept sketch created by Art Director Robert Neppach for the German pacifist romance At the Edge of the World. The drawing served as an exact preliminary image for the opening shot of the picture, the giant looming windmill being the first thing viewers see after the expository introduction text. Skilled at more than designing costumes and Neo-Expressionist sets, Neppach was also an architect, film producer, and a director in the 1930s. Indications of use include mild edge wear, minor chips at the edges, as well as some tide marks in the lower right corner. There is some smudging, however this most likely occurred during the artistic process. The piece comes with a mat.
